Zakir Hussain was a wonder child, and was touring by the age of twelve. He started his International career in United States in 1970, which includes more than 150 concerts a year. Pt Shivkumar Sharma's talent was also discovered at a very young age by his father. He was a vocalist for some years but later he went to become the master Instrumentalist of Santoor. Other than various national and International awards, both Zakir Hussain and Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma are recipients of the titles of Padma Shri in 1988 and 1991 and Padma Bushan in 2002 and 2001 respectively. Zakir Hussian being the youngest percussionist to be awarded these titles. Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma's son Rahul Sharma is also a famous Santoor Player.
