Scaly bellied Woodpecker or Picus squamatus nesting in Landour, Mussoorie, Uttarkhand, India. Filmed on 21st June 2012.

Scaly-bellied Green Woodpecker nesting in Landour, Mussoorie, India and is a resident in the foothills of Himalayas. It is also found in the adjoining regions of the Indian Subcontinent, ranging across Afghanistan, Iran, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan. After having foraged for larvae and other grubs from tree bark, the Woodpecker male (the father has a red crest) comes back and regurgitates it at the opening of the nest-hole, in order to feed the chicks. Several Picus squamatus nests in the month of Jun, all with young. They are somewhat small yet the nest holes are always about forty or fifty feet up the trees, at all elevations, from 5 to 7,000 feet.
