  • hace 5 años
Argentine Events offers a few hours after the message is delivered to the country of the President of the Nation, Lieutenant General Juan Carlos Ongania; this is a real effort of the filmed press. In his speech he expresses: - "Argentines: I have assumed the position of President of the Nation, which the Armed Forces have granted in conferring me, convinced that the seriousness of the national circumstance imposes us inexcusable obligations." I accept this exceptional responsibility, convinced that it is It is necessary to produce in the Republic a fundamental change, a true revolution that returns to the Argentines their faith, their confidence and their pride. There were times when this revolution could be a happy anticipation to the challenge of their foreseeable circumstances. and this government comes to fulfill that imperative that others ignored. The resolution adopted by the Armed Forces with unanimity and discipline that are testimony of their patriotism and disinterest, has been born of that purpose, of that raised ideal and of a reality that is eloquent, the country was spiritually and physically diminished, heir to an illustrious past and owner of Tencialities that force him to project himself to his high destinies, the Argentine public has been in danger of being unfaithful to his history and of betraying his future. We have all suffered this reality and have experienced the anguish of a chronic frustration that was incomprehensible in the face of the richness of our moral and material resources. The requirement of subordination to the law implies the correlative obligation, on the part of the government, to provide the latter with a real and profound content. When that obligation is ignored and the institutional system becomes a burden that oppresses the country and annuls its best energies, it returns to the people the supreme right to rebel in defense of their freedom and their future. It was the duty of the armed forces to enforce this irrevocable right. To pretend otherwise would imply offering formalistic compliance to norms devoid of effective validity, and opting for a collective complicity in falsehood and deception that would have corrupted the faith, generating skepticism and weakening the will. It would be incompatible with seriousness and honor to pursue a mere change of people or the substitution of parties. This Argentine Revolution is not directed against any public man or political group. Look only forward, and intends to make the transformation that the country requires to live with dignity.
