Tiger Woods to Receive the
Presidential Medal of Freedom The 2019 Masters marks Woods’s fifth win
of the prestigious tournament, as well as
his first major golf win since 2008. Following his tournament victory,
Trump decided to award Woods with
the prestigious medal of freedom. He announced the decision via Twitter,
as well as congratulated Woods for his victory. The presidential medal of freedom
is one of the highest awards that can be
bestowed upon a citizen by the president. The medal is awarded to those who have made
“especially meritorious contributions to the
security or national interests of the United States." Trump has only awarded the medal to seven
recipients so far, making Woods his eighth. The pair have had a longstanding relationship,
having golfed together numerous times before
and after Trump’s election in 2016. Woods is also designing the course for Trump’s golf
course in Dubai, which is set to open sometime in 2019. A date has yet to be set
for Woods’s medal reception.
