Largest Plane on Earth
Takes Flight in California The aircraft, which took off from
Mojave Air & Space Port, is the
widest plane on earth at 385 feet. The flight was planned by
Stratolaunch Systems, which was
started by Paul Allen in 2011. The late co-founder of Microsoft died last year following a battle with cancer. The plane flew for over two hours,
reaching an altitude of 15,000 feet. Test pilot Evan Thomas, via CNN Once the plane is completely certified,
it will help launch a satellite
into low orbit. The plane would then safely land for future trips. According to CNN, launching satellites
via planes is much cheaper than
standard trips with rockets.
