Indian authorities clear tonnes of snow so voters can reach polling stations

Indian authorities were on Saturday clearing tonnes of snow from roads in Himachal Pradesh state to allow voters to get to polling stations to cast their ballots in the country's general election.

The Lahual-Spiti district is particularly badly affected by snow and some voters will need to cross five sections of a glacier to reach a polling station in Khangar.

The 2019 Indian general election is scheduled to be held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019.
