Chinese Premier Li Keqiang promised to boost trade ties with the European Union (EU) at their 21st annual summit on April 9, 2019. Amid increasing trade tensions and Europe’s growing scepticism about Beijing’s expanding global influence, Li said China vowed to provide a “level playing field” for EU businesses. The Chinese premier also dismissed US claims related to industrial espionage by Chinese tech giant Huawei on behalf of Beijing.
