Actor Sumalatha Ambareesh on Monday announced that she will contest the elections from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency as an Independent candidate. She will be taking on Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil, who is the JD(S) candidate. Producer and distributor Rockline Venkatesh said that Sandalwood was by Sumalatha's side. "Actors Rajnikanth and Chiranjeevi, who were good friends of Ambareesh have applauded my decision. They said that I have taken a step in the right direction," Sumalatha said.
