Sandinistas mobilize troops in northern Nicaragua 1989

  • hace 5 años
The Nicaraguan contras reported that the Sandinista government launched a large-scale offensive against the guerrilla forces now that Managua ended the ceasefire. The Sandinistas began this morning to mobilize their troops in the north of Nicaragua and also carry out operations in the center of the country, using all means at their disposal, heavy artillery and helicopters with air-to-surface missiles. The contra leaders plan to meet later, they plan to ask the United States for help in fighting government troops. The contras were going to demobilize on December 5 but in the face of recent events, it is not known if this will happen. According to Ortega there will only be elections if the United States promotes the demobilization of the contras. President Bush does not think that idea is attractive, the United States wants to preserve the atmosphere so that they can have free and fair elections. The contras are receiving about 4 million dollars per month from the United States. Insert soldiers in the Honduras-Nicaragua border. Presidents Daniel Ortega and George Bush.
