NOTA Real Power: How NOTA Can Go Beyond Symbolism; Candidates in NOTA Region; Right to Reject

The Supreme Court of India has said, if the Right to Vote is a statutory right, then the right to reject a candidate is a fundamental right of speech and expression under the Constitution. The poll bugle for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections has been sounded. With just a few weeks left for the elections, we here at NewsX are starting a campaign to bring about awareness on our rights as voters. Tonight we will be looking at NOTA or the None Of The Above option which gives those of us disenchanted by the shrill political discourse, the option to express a negative opinion by not selecting any of the candidates in the fray. Five years after the SC made the NOTA option mandatory, it remains largely symbolic - as it has no real impact.
