A shocked grandmother from northeast England captured the moment police boxed in a driver of a stolen vehicle after a dramatic chase.

Northumbria police pursued the male driver after an eight-mile chase on Tuesday (March 5) through the streets of Gateshead, local media reported.

In the dash-cam video, the silver vehicle takes a left turn at a set of traffic lights onto the wrong side of the road, nearly striking another car.

Several police cars are in pursuit and manage to box the car in, just yards from Jarrow grandmother Debbie Hudson's vehicle.

A police officer then jumps out of his vehicle and pulls the driver of the silver car out of his vehicle.

"The man had stolen a car from a forecourt," according to Hudson.

She says the vehicle's price tag was still in the front window of the car.

Hudson's grandchild was inside the car at the time and can be heard in the video.

Local police said: "At about a 12.40pm today a wanted man was sighted driving a vehicle near to the Coalhouse roundabout in Gateshead.

“Motor patrols officers signalled for the vehicle to stop but the driver refused and drove away from officers at speed.

“The vehicle was eventually brought to a stop on Albert Road in Jarrow and the 21-year-old was arrested for outstanding matters.

“Nobody was injured during the pursuit and the man in question remains in police custody at this time.”
