‘Indian submarine’ sighted near Pakistani waters
  • 5 years ago
Pakistan’s military released footage it describes as showing an Indian submarine approaching Pakistani waters on March 4, 2019. The Pakistan Navy put out a statement saying that the watercraft was not attacked and that the navy used “specialised skills to ward off the submarine” which reportedly moved away.
Indian media reports quoting Indian naval officials said the submarine footage supplied by Pakistan was fake. The South China Morning Post had no means of independently verifying the authenticity of the video.
Tension is high between India and Pakistan following a suicide bombing in Indian-held Kashmir on February 14 that killed 40 paramilitary police officers. India accused Pakistan-backed militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) for the attack and retaliated with an airstrike at “militant camps” inside Pakistan on February 26. The following day, Pakistan downed two Indian military jets and captured a pilot who was later released.
Pakistan’s interior ministry announced on Tuesday, March 5, that authorities have arrested dozens of people, including the brother of the leader of the outlawed JeM group.
