Kanye West Isn't Legally
Allowed to Retire From Music West is reportedly trying
to "obtain his freedom"
from a contract with EMI. West's contract, via court documents Yeezy is citing California
Labor Code section 2855, which is the same law that gave 'Gone with the Wind' actress Olivia de Havilland her freedom
from Warner Bros. in the 1940s. West's complaint,
via court records West also seeks to be declared the owner of his own works. However, under the contract
termination rules, 35 years must pass before
an author can reclaim rights to their work. EMI is attempting to
dispute the claims.
