U.S. to scale down annual military drills with S. Korea : Reuters, NBC

Addressing reporters after the Hanoi summit,... President Trump aired his grievances over the heavy cost of joint South Korea-U.S. military exercises.

"You know we're protecting South Korea I think they should help us with that. So those exercises are very expensive.
Exercising is fun and it's nice, so they play the war games and I'm not saying it's not necessary."

American media outlets are reporting the annual South Korea-U.S. military drills may be reduced in scale moving forward.
Citing unnamed U.S. officials, Reuters reports that the upcoming joint exercise in spring will be smaller than previous years.
NBC reports Washington is preparing to say the large-scale exercises will be replaced by smaller, mission-specific training.
It said the decision may be a part of President Trump's efforts to ease tensions with North Korea,... although it raises questions on the state of U.S. combat readiness.
