Colonel Santosh Mahadik martyred in Jammu and Kashmir, Nation pays tribute to valiant hero

Colonel Santosh Mahadik, commanding officer of the 41 Rashtriya Rifles, was martyred when a search party he was leading came under fire from militants in the dense forests of Haji Naka along the Line of Control. Awarded a Sena Medal for gallantry during Operation Rhino in the North-East in 2003, He specially volunteered to command a battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles, the Army's specialized counter-insurgency force in J&K. Colonel Mahadik is survived by his wife and two children aged eleven and five years. Lt Gen DS Hooda, Commander of the Northern Command, the maharashtra chief minister and the union defence minister expressed deep condolences after Colonel Mahadik’s death.
