Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has reignited the Beef Ban debate. Speaking at an event Rajnath said that even Mughals recognised that consuming beef would be detrimental to governance. This comment comes on the heels of a government scheme to protect cows from being sold to slaughter houses. The government plans to cultivate grazing fields around villages for old cows. The opposition has demanded that the states be allowed the freedom to decide on the ban on beef.
