Dal Khalsa set deadline for BJP to free ex-militants

The Dal Khalsa, a radical Sikh organisation, has urged the Jathedar of the Akal Takht to set an ultimatum to the Union and Punjab governments to release the six Sikh detainees within the next 100 hours, failing which the community would launch a “strong” action programme.

In a statement, the Dal Khalsa appealed to the Jathedar of the apex temporal authority of the Sikhs to convene a meeting of all Panthic organisations on January 5 to work out a strategy to get the six former militants freed, as they had completed their sentences.

The second hunger strike by Sikh rights activist Bhai Gurbakash Singh had completed 49 days at Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib in Ambala. When he went on a hunger strike at Amb Sahib Gurdwara in Mohali last year, he was promised that the prisoners would be freed. Among the six are at least three convicted of assassinating Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.
