Uber blames the govt over loopholes in its guideless over cab services

Uber’s CEO Travis Kalanick has finally responded to the horrific incident that took place in Delhi over the weekend. Kalanick has essentially blamed the Indian government for the “lack of background checks in its commercial transportation licensing programs,” and has also promised that they are working with the authorities to bring the perpetrator to justice.

According to reports, the Uber driver apprehended for raping a woman in the cab has been earlier arrested and jailed in 2011 in a rape case and was lodged in Tihar jail for seven months. Instead of taking responsibility for the way it hires its drivers, Kalanick’s statements seem to deflect the blame onto others — in this case the Indian government. He has said that the company will “work with the government to establish clear background checks currently absent in their commercial transportation licensing programs.”
