Even as the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) turns a blind eye to the rampant illegal construction in the city, a two-and-a-half-year-old child lost her life on Monday night after she fell into an open manhole adjacent to an "illegal" under-construction building at Kashmir Para in Garden Reach.


Police have arrested the promoter of the property — Mongru alias Akhmal Munna. Locals claimed that the accused is also employed as a driver with the Garden Reach police. However, cops have denied the claims.
