EC clears Narendra Modi's address on radio

The Election Commission (EC) on Friday set aside the Congress's charges that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's radio address on October 3 had violated the model code of conduct. The poll panel ruled that the PM's speech on All India Radio had not violated any election-related rules.

The Congress on Monday had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' programme on AIR, alleging that it had violated the model code of conduct as it was aired at a time when the two states of Haryana and Maharashtra are readying for elections.

In a new initiative to reach out to the maximum populace, Modi had sought to connect with the masses through radio with the programme, giving a pep talk on shedding despondency and use of skills for the country's betterment and prosperity.
