Narendra Modi addresses teachers ahead of ‘Gurutsav’

On the eve of the Teachers' Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said teachers hold great importance in the life of students.

Addressing teachers who would be honoured with a national award for teaching by President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday, Modi said "teaching" is not a profession or job, but a way of life – "jeevan dharm”.

He said a teacher never retires, and always continues to endeavour to teach the new generation.

During the informal interaction, the PM said that after becoming Gujarat's Chief Minister, he fulfilled his wish of inviting his school friends and teachers to his residence.

"I always wished to call all the teachers who have taught me since childhood. For any child, teachers hold great importance...After becoming the chief minister, I called and honoured them," said Modi, who was greeted with applause.
