SC won’t cancel coal block allocations

The Supreme Court declared the allocation of about 200 coal blocks between 1993 and 2009 illegal and said it would decide on their fate at hearings starting next week, raising the prospect of cancellations that could put the brakes on India's recovery with any such mines likely having to be auctioned off. Metal stocks crashed amid uncertainty about coal supplies integral to the manufacturing process.
