Jayalalitha visits building collapse site

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday visited the site where an under-construction building collapsed leaving 11 dead.
"Too early to say what went wrong but appears to be a structural defect. Rescue operations are underway without respite. So far 31 people have been recovered, 11 are no more and 20 are receiving medical care in hospital," said Jayalalithaa on building collapse in Chennai.
It is feared that as many as 72 people are still trapped inside the debris.
Meanwhile, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority officials said a formal report would be submitted to ascertain whether any "irregularities" or "illegalities" in granting plan permission. Other aspects to be examined would include the quality of construction and the soil suitability, they said.
