Final rites of Assam cops to take place shortly

Karbi militants killed a superintendent of police and his personal security officer in a gunfight in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Thursday evening.
SP (Hemren police district) Nityananda Goswami and his PSO, Ratul Nunisa, were shot dead during a search operation against Karbi rebels at Rongphu Hanse, a remote hilly village 200 km south of Guwahati.
The body of Goswami, who was to retire in 2016, was brought to Guwahati where his wife and son live. The PSO's body was handed over to his family in Karbi Anglong.
Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju will arrive in Guwahati on Saturday to attend the funeral of the slain SP. State home commissioner G D Tripathi said Rijiju would also hold a meeting with Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on the law and order situation.
