BJP general secretary and UP in-charge Amit Shah Thursday withdrew his petition seeking a stay on arrest and quashing of FIRs registered in connection with the alleged hate speech made by him in Muzaffarnagar.

The court allowed the petition to be withdrawn after his counsel Shamit Gopal made a request. Gopal forwarded the application before the division bench of Justices Arun Tandon and Satish Chandra, seeking withdrawal of the petition. "The court listened to our request and dismissed it as withdrawn," said Gopal.

According to Gopal, his client decided to withdraw the plea after the EC issued a notice to him in connection with the same case Wednesday, after the petition was already filed in the Allahabad High Court.
