Arvind Kejriwal's Varanasi Rally

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal arrived in Varanasi on Tuesday to a hostile reception from apparent supporters of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi who threw eggs and black ink at him.

Eggs were thrown at Kejriwal's car outside the Kashi Vishwanath temple, with the protesters steadily raising anti-Kejriwal slogans and asking him to leave the Hindu holy city.

The supporters also threw black ink at the AAP chief during his roadshow in Varanasi.

Kejriwal was proceeding slowly in an open vehicle to the ground where he is to address a rally, accompanied by hundreds of supporters, when he was targeted.

The ink stained his face and clothes, and the clothes of senior party leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh.

The man who threw the ink was identified as Ambrish, said to be a member of the Hindu Vahini Sena, informed sources said. Police whisked him away to an unknown destination.

Calling him a "traitor", hundreds of slogan-shouting people blocked his cavalcade while raising slogans of "Modi, Modi".
