Sushma Swaraj leading anti-Modi front

BJP seems likely to re induct B Sriramulu, former aide of Bellary's mining baron Janardhan Reddy, despite objections of senior leader Sushma Swaraj, keeping in mind his political utility and that he does not face serious charges in court.

On Thursday, Swaraj went public with her objections to Sriramulu's BSR Congress merging with BJP, tweeting, "I am opposed to the alliance or merger of BSR with BJP in Karnataka. I have conveyed to Shri Rajnath Singhji in writing that BJP must not permit this."

But the state unit and the central leadership remain keen on ensuring Sriramulu's return, hoping to gain the 4% vote BSR Congress polled in the 2013 assembly election. BJP feels the outfit can influence results on five Lok Sabha seats and take the party's tally past 15 in the forthcoming national election.

Sriramulu, who belongs to the Scheduled Tribe Nayaka community, wields considerable influence in Bellary, Koppal, Raichur, Gadag and Chitradurga districts and senior BJP leaders, including B S Yeddyurappa, feel his return to the party brings huge dividends.
