INS Sindhuratna tragedy: CAG report exposes navy rot
  • 5 years ago
Defence Minister A. K. Antony hailed Admiral D. K. Joshi, who resigned as Navy chief a day earlier taking moral responsibility for the mishap in INS Sindhuratna, as a " very good admiral". But it does little to say for his ministry and the fact remains that the political leadership and the civil bureaucracy that Antony lords over cannot escape the blame for the problems afflicting the Navy.

Alacrity shown by the government to accept Admiral Joshi's resignation marks Antony's own journey as a defence minister—from a minister who blindly stood by military chiefs to a man circumspect about many of their claims. Importantly, it also raises the question if the quick acceptance was partially prompted by the fact that a beleaguered UPA couldn't afford another round of political mudslinging over a string of naval accidents.
