Karnataka CM backtracks on Lokayukta

The state government has reportedly decided not to table the Karnataka Lokayukta Bill, 2014, during the ongoing legislature session. While it was approved by the cabinet last week, Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao met governor HR Bhardwaj here on Sunday, expressing concern over the provisions of the draft Bill.

"Let there be a public debate on the draft Bill. We want more opinions from all sections of society. The legislation may be tabled in the extended budget session in June July," government sources told TOI on Monday.

Senior cabinet ministers were reportedly in favour of the Bill being tabled and passed in the current session. With the Centre getting the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, 2013, in place, AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi had, during his meeting with Congress ruled state CMs, asked them to model their legislations along that of the Union government's.
