Supreme Court issues notice to all states of discrimination against North-East Indians

In the wake of frequent attacks on the people from north-eastern states, the Supreme Court on Friday issued guidelines to the Central government and the state governments.

The guidelines were issued to provide protection to the Northeast people in various parts of the country.

Earlier, a plea was submitted in the apex court, urging it to direct governments to protect youths from the Northeast living in other states of the country.

The recent attacks on the northeaster people have highlighted the frequency with which the youths from these states are being targeted.

Incidents like the death of a Arunachal Pradesh student, Nido Taniam, who died in Delhi after being allegedly beaten, and attack on the two Manipuri youths show the persistent racial discrimination.
