Aam Aadmi party latest: Shoaib Iqbal threatens to pull out from AAP, then backs off
  • 5 years ago
The battle might be over even before it began. JDU MLA Shoaib Iqbal on Monday met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and claimed that he has been assured of action on the demands raised by him and two other MLAS.
"Kejriwal clearly said he is with us and has agreed to our demands," Iqbal said after the meeting. "We had given 48 hours' notice for the issues that we brought up. If you think it's blackmailing, then we would continue as it's for helping the people," he said.
Iqbal, along with expelled AAP leader Vinod Kumar Binny and Independent MLA Rambeer Shokeen, had threatened to withdraw support to the Kejriwal government if their demands were not met.
The trio had issued a 48-hour deadline to the Delhi government to fulfil their demands.
They reportedly also met a Shiromani Akali Dal MLA on Sunday night and said that they would soon form a front against the AAP. SAD MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa, however, denied that there was any threat to the AAP government.
"I had no formal meeting with Binny. There is no threat to the Delhi government. We are in alliance with the BJP and BJP's decision will be my final decision," Sirsa said.
The meltdown in tempers may come as a relief to Kejriwal whose government is battling criticism on many fronts.
