India Debate: Is the HC right in demanding a ban on communal netas from contesting polls?

The courts are out to clean up the system. A few weeks ago the Supreme Court succeeded in ensuring convicted netas were barred from contesting elections. Now the high court wants a ban on hate spewing netas too.

More than this the HC wants a ban on religious nationalists from polls. the high court order says such parties proclaiming to be Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian nationalist not only work against 'Indians' but against the very thought of India.

If the EC acts on the HC's direction several parties like the shiv sena, Akali Dal and a host of minority parties like the MIM, IUML, peace party could find themselves ejected from the electoral arena. The order has sparked a debate while the congress has used it to attack Modi and the Sangh the BJP has trashed it saying that the order is ill conceived. All of this forces us to ask.
