The Uttar Pradesh Police lathicharged the crowd protesting the arrest of BJP MLA Sangeet Som for his aggressive remarks during Muzaffarnagar riots. Despite outlawed by the administration, Mahapanchayat was being carried out in the area.The uncontrolled crowd burnt several vehicles which compelled the police force to resort to lathicharge. Police also fired in air to disperse the crowd.

BJP MLA Sangeet Som was arrested for his alleged involvement in the fake video uploading case and making provocative speeches on September 24 under the stringent National Security Act.The police had to resort to lathicharge to control the irate mob, which pelted stones at the policemen and security personnel. Some policemen were injured in the violence.

Despite the prohibitory orders, over 2000 people, including a few local BJP leaders, gathered at a school ground in Khera village to Mr Som's arrest.The police have imposed prohibitory orders in the area and there is heavy security deployment.
