Mumbai: ITV Network Managing Director Kartikeya Sharma felicitated marathoners in 'The Great India Run'
The 18 national and international runners who had, nineteen days before, embarked on a historic ultra-marathon from the India Gate in the National Capital to the Gateway of India in Mumbai were felicitated on Thursday for their amazing achievement. Milind Soman, the star among the runners, was first congratulated by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other attendees gathered in the event to celebrate the occasion. Ultra-marathon runner Arun Bhardwaj was then honored with a medal for participating in the Great India Run. The contingent consists of Siddharth Choudhary, David Bredo, Yuri Esperson, Meenal Kotak, Ranjana Deopa, Melanie Delaney, Joginder Chandna, Dinesh Heda, Sreekanth Reddi, Pia Hansson, Shweta Sharma, Sunil Sharma, Dhanaee Kumar and Kaushal Chauhan.Amidst accolades and the jarring music of the 'Star Wars', the marathoners were congratulated for achieving a nearly-impossible feat within 19 days, 2 days short of the 21-day target.Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis congratulated the athletes as they arrived in Mumbai and expressed his optimism for the Indian athletes bound for Rio Olympics. "These athletes are no less than Superman," exclaimed the minister.The event was also attended by the Managing Director of NewsX, Kartikeya Sharma. People became spectator to an aw-inducing incident yesterday when supermodel Milind Soman's 76-year-old mother ran for a few minutes with her son. And her happiness and excitement was apparent when asked about this immense hurdle the athletes had passed. Milind Soman joined the party from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, a route – he professes – he has passed many times.
