Moments after Rajnath Singh announced Modi as the PM candidate for BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that BJP was ecstatic that a mass leader like him was named as the future Prime Minister of India.
He also said, "The whole hand of Congress party is soiled with blood. People want a change from this corrupt Manmohan-Sonia govt. This election will be fought on issues of corruption, the economy, "issues that he said were completely mismanaged by Congress over its last years of UPA-II.
When asked whether there would be a rift in the party because of the dissatisfaction of Advani over BJP's prime ministeral candidate, he said, "When Advani anointed Vajpayee as PM candidate, some people had a problem. They will come around." According to him, Advani was the tallest leader of the party and the mentor of the party, something that even Modi had mentioned in the brief media interaction after his anointment as PM candidate.
