Last mile efforts to forge a consensus around Modi's candidature for BJP's prime ministerial candidate have spluttered to a grinding halt after Advani raised the stakes.
Highly placed sources have told NewsX that negotiations over finding a face saver to placate LK Advani ran aground after the patriarch sought more concessions. In particular, a deal that would see Sushma Swaraj swapping places with Modi as the campaign committee chief ahead of the 2014 polls.
