NewsX: Punjab has high fiscal deficit, state has no money to pay employees salary

Punjab has historically been one of the fastest-growing and richest states of India, with one of the lowest poverty rates. But now the state has no money to pay its employees' salaries and pensions. Banks refuse to lend as Punjab has already exhausted its borrowing limit by raising Rs 1,681 crore till June 30, 2013. An all out political war has started on this between the Congress and Akali Dal.
