NewsX: Telangana in the reckoning, top Andhra Congress leaders summoned to Delhi

HYDERABAD: In what is expected to be a politically significant day for Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, the Congress has convened a meeting of the working committee (CWC), the highest policymaking body of the party, where an announcement in favour of Telangana is expected to be taken. Significantly, the Congress also advanced the meeting of the UPA coordination committee from Wednesday to Tuesday.

The UPA coordination committee will meet at 4 pm on Tuesday, followed by the CWC meet at 5 pm. AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh made it clear on Monday that the long-awaited decision on Telangana will happen. The CWC meeting is expected to take place at 10, Janpath, the residence of party president Sonia Gandhi, and all the 22 members have been asked to attend what might turn into a historic meeting.

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana and deputy chief minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha have been directed by the Prime Minister's Office to make themselves available in Delhi on Tuesday evening, when the CWC will meet. According to sources, the meeting, chaired by Sonia, will formalize the recommendation of the Congress core committee to create the Telangana state.
