Facebook Arrest : Woman lawyer granted bail

NewsX: A woman lawyer who was arrested over alleged defamatory comment on facebook against Former Andhra Chief Minister K Rosaiah and a Congress MLA granted bail .

The advocate who is a member of PUCL was arrested and sent to Judicial custody for 14 days. The congress MLA filed a complaint against the advocate claiming that the woman called him a paedophile. Andhra Pradesh police arrested her under section 66A of IT act.

This is not the first time that individuals voicing their opinion have the music, thereby raising row over freedom of expression being muzzled.

The recent abuse pertains to the Kerala Cyber police.. which questioned over 100 people for posting remarks against Cong leader Bindu krishna, who spoke in defence of P.J Kurein on Suryanelli rape case.

In November last year, a 21-year-old girl in Mumbai who questioned the complete shutdown for Bal Thackeray's funeral on her Facebook account was arrested. Another girl who just about 'liked' the comment was also arrested.

In October the same year, Ravi, a small scale industrialist from Puducherry was arrested for posting messages on Twitter stating that finance minister P. Chidambaram's son Karti had amassed wealth more than that of Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
