Is Akhilesh govt jeopardizing the future of children? (Part 1)
Speak Out India is a NewsX special show which debates the main news event of the day. In Uttar Pradesh lakhs of school students are paying for the election sops distributed by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. The free laptop scheme has been so costly that the state has been left with no paper for classrooms. The UP government's policies are jeopardising the exams of lakhs of school children. Akhilesh has himself and his party to blame for the state of affairs..His state's flagship programme, the much hyped free laptops for students has sucked away all the funds. With the result that UP Government has NO money to fund the school examinations. With exams looming, students of govt primary and junior high school (Class I to VIII) across the state have been told to bring their own answer sheets, teachers are being told to write the questions on blackboards. It's a gross oversight by an inept state government. That didn't make any budgetary provision for the annual examinations. Leaving the consequences to be borne by the 1.4 crore students enrolled in over 1 lakh government primary and junior high schools. Sot he question we are asking is- Who is to blame for UP schools being left paperless? Should UP govt own up for mismanaging school funds? Is Akhilesh govt jeopardizing the future of children? We debate this on the show and try to evolve consensus among our panelists over the issue.
