Elderly lady commits `sati’ on husband’s pyre in Bihar

On the biggest social evils that had plagued the nation during the previous century has resurfaced again in Bihar on Saturday when an elderly woman committed suicide by committing `sati’ (sitting on the funeral pyre of her husband).According to reports, one Ram Charan Mandal who was around 70 years of age had expired early in the morning on Saturday in the village Parmania of Saharsa district. The family members along with some local villagers took the body of Mandal for cremation and after performing the last rites, the family members returned home.
