Villagers dip hands in hot oil to prove loyalty to political leader
  • 5 years ago
A bizarre test of loyalty in Modi's so-called vibrant Gujarat. 40 villagers in Sabarkantha district have been brutalised by a candidate for Panchayat elections, who vented out his frustration of losing polls on innocent villagers. The losing candidate Girish Parmar charged that villagers of his community did not vote for him. He asked the villagers to take a loyalty test or Agni Parikha.. He asked them to put their hands in hot oil.. assuring that if they would not lie, their hands won't burn. Girish's supporter Amrat Parmar arranged for the agni pariksha. About 40 people for their hands burnt in the process. An old woman got so tense that she lost her life. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Police is investigating the case.
