NewsX@9: Stalin, not Alagiri to lead DMK
NewsX@9 is a NewsX special show which debates the main news event of the day. It's the clearest announcement of his intention so far. DMK president, M Karunanidhi, has said that his younger son, MK Stalin, will be his successor. But given that Stalin and his older brother, MK Aragiri, are bitter rivals - will the DMK see a smooth transition? Karunanidhi's eldest son and union Minister Alagiri had openly resented to hints of Stalin leading the party and that he would not accept anyone else other than his father as leader. A couple of months ago, the Madurai strong man, had made no secret about his unhappiness over selection of party functionaries in his home turf, particularly in the youth wing headed by Stalin. Also, in April last year, the fight for supremacy between the two brothers peaked and Alagir walked out of a general council meeting in Coimbatore. So we debate today - Can Stalin keep the family and DMK together? Has Karunanidhi pushed DMK towards a political crisis? Is Stalin the right challenger to Jayalalithaa? We debate this on the show and try to evolve consensus among our panelists over the issue. Watch this NewsX debate special show NewsX@9.
