A drunken truck driver mowed over five persons, including three children, as they slept in a field near the television tower in Agam Kuan on late Saturday night.

The tragedy occurred just minutes after midnight on Bhootnath Road near HIG Colony.

As reported, the inebriated truck driver suddenly entered his vehicle and drove the truck over the field where several people were sleeping under the sky due to power failure in their huts. He then continued to drive the vehicle and sped away in the cover of the darkness.

Two men who escaped death but received serious injuries were rushed to the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) for treatment.

The victims were identified as Mangal Manjhi (10), Jitendra Manjhi (15) and his brother Dharmendra Manjhi (10); Mitthu Manjhi (18), and Suraj Manjhi (22).

Officials from Kankarbagh, Jakkanpur, Patrakar Nagar, and Agam Kuan police rushed to the site of the accident where they met the wrath of the angry residents who demanded immediate arrest of the truck driver and adequate compensation to the victims' families.

It was reported that someone managed to get the license plate of the truck though the police did not confirm it.
