It was on Tuesday that 4 lives were snuffed out for lack of oxygen in the ICU in a govt Hospital in Delhi..The ICU turned into a chamber of death..A day later on Wednesday, one more person died ion the same hospital due to lack of Oxygen, taking the toll to 5. 2 technicians working with the private contractor running its centralised oxygen plant have now been arrested. One of the arrested, Amit Katoch, was the technician posted at the oxygen plant the night the supply was disrupted and the other is the supervisor, Madan Lal Sharma, who was overall incharge of the plant. The police claim it was one of them who shut the oxygen supply on Monday night for some maintenance work. NewsX has accessed documents that show that PSE, the contracted company, had written to hospital authorities last year in October warning that their annual maintainance contract was running out by the 30th of October, 2011..The company clearly warned that if the contract is not renewed..manpower at the oxygen plant will be reduced..The hospital authorities did not respond for nearly a year..writing back only on the 25th of October this year..requesting that the service be continued as before as it was a life saving installation.
