PM rejects BJP demand to put CBI chief's appointment on hold - NewsX

The Prime Minister has responded on the CBI director appointment row, taking a tough stand on the matter. Dr Manmohan Singh's office has trashed the opposition's protests against appointment of Ranjit Sinha outside the provisions laid down in the Lokpal Bill. In this reply to the letter from some BJP leaders on the matter. The PMO said there was no question of keeping the appointment in abeyance, as the CBI could not be left without a chief till the elaborate procedure of enacting the Lokpal Bill was completed. The PMO stressed that the appointment had been made in accordance with the CVC Act. The reply says accusations of pre-empting the Select Committee on the Lokpal Bill are unwarranted and unmerited. It also says there's no question of previous appointments to the CBI director's post being motivated in nature.
