SC set up monitoring panel to clean Yamuna - NewsX

After 18 years of monitoring efforts to reduce pollution in the Yamuna, the Supreme Court has constituted a 2-member expert committee to examine and report to the court on what had been achieved on the ground regarding reducing pollution in the river. The court asked the expert panel to submit its interim report by November 9 and asked it to examine how many drains in Delhi discharge waste into the river. UP, Haryana and Delhi have spent nearly 5,000 crore rupees on projects to clean the river. A Supreme Court bench said authorities had taken the court's orders too casually for too long and warned that it would not hesitate to crack the whip.
