Hurricane Sandy has made landfall in the US North-East, coming ashore in New Jersey and threatening New York city. Dubbed Frankenstorm, Sandy made its landfall at Atlantic City in New Jersey at around 7.45 pm local time on Monday. Parts of New York have been severely hit by fierce winds and flooding, though there are no reports of deaths. Earlier, the storm was downgraded from a Category 1 hurricane to a post-tropical storm, with wind speeds having fallen to 140 kilometres per hour. About 50 million people could be affected by this storm, which has prompted mandatory evacuations of hundreds of thousands of people in New York City, New Jersey and Delaware. Wall Street has been shut down - the first weather-related disruption in 27 years.
