Trinamool Congress Chief and fiery West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee believes the rising 'openness' among young people is the main reason why the number of rapes in the country are going up. Sounding worryingly similar to the rape logic used by khap panchayats in Haryana, Mamata also accused the media of 'news pollution' against her government in trying to project Bengal as a land of rapists. Amidst the wave of criticisms against this latest statement, voices have also been raised calling this an attempt by Mamata to consolidate the minority vote bank in Bengal.
