Government may rethink rail fare hike for Mumbai suburban trains

Pressure is mounting on the Narendra Modi government to scrap the rail fare hike for Mumbai suburban trains. Government sources say that there are concerns after the Bharatiya Janata Party's oldest ally Shiv Sena's criticism in Saamna.Sources say while there can be no rollback of the hike, but the hike could be staggered for suburban trains. The impact of the 14.2 per cent hike led to complete withdrawal of subsidies in suburban travel.
